About Steven Koczela
Steve Koczela is the President of The MassINC Polling Group, where he has grown the organization from its infancy to a nationally known and respected polling provider. During the 2012 election cycle, MPG partnered with WBUR to conduct a series of polls on the nationally watched Massachusetts Senate Election, among other contests. Koczela led the partnership, which correctly predicted the outcome in each of the six contests on which polls were conducted.
He has led survey research programs for the U.S. Department of State in Iraq, in key states for President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, and has conducted surveys and polls on behalf of many private corporations. Koczela brings a deep understanding of the foundations of public opinion and a wide ranging methodological expertise. He earned U.S. Department of State recognition for his leading edge work on sample evaluation in post conflict areas using geospatial systems.
He is a sought after speaker on public opinion trends and developments both for private functions and public events. He is known for an easily accessible presentation style, which brings clarity and insight to the complex and interwoven dynamics of public opinion. He appears on many news and talk programs in Massachusetts, and his polling analysis is often cited in local, state, and national media outlets. Koczela holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Research from the University of Wisconsin and is a veteran of the war in Iraq.

Clients of the MassINC Polling Group
The MassINC Polling Group (MPG) is a for-profit subsidiary of MassINC. We have our own clients separate from MassINC, and regularly conduct projects that are unrelated to the research program of MassINC. MPG’s choice of projects and clients, as well as findings and recommendations we give to our clients do not necessarily reflect the opinions of MassINC.
Joint projects with MassINC
When MassINC and MPG collaborate on research projects, MPG is contracted to design the survey instrument, perform data collection, and provide results. Working together, MassINC and MPG interpret findings and present them in a report. While these reports are authored by both MassINC and MPG, recommendations presented represent the views of MassINC exclusively.
